There definitely needs to be changes made for pensioners according to Alex Salmond, the SNP leader. He made the point that at the moment, pensioners are being forced to choose between food and heating oil. This is something that the SNP are keen to change and plan to do what they can to achieve an increase in the winter payments for those most in need.

There are other pensioners besides those in Scotland who have to choose between heating oil and food. It is the same for the rest of the UK. When demand for heating oil increases in the winter, prices rise and this is when the problems start. And the weather last winter was extremely bad which meant that many pensioners found it hard to get by.

Although the idea that pensioners have to choose between heating and food is quite shocking to most of us, the fact is that it is fast becoming a reality. It is a fact that many pensioners will lose their lives during the winter months and lack of heating can be attributed to some of these deaths. The sad thing is that many of these pensioners actually have heating in their homes but are afraid to use it because of the price. And this problem is set to get worse as heating oil prices rise.

During the winter months, home heating should not be seen as a luxury. As temperatures plummet it means that staying warm becomes a matter of survival. And keeping the home warm is a simple, convenient thing to do in this day and age. So long as you have the money to pay for it. This problem needs to be tackled and hopefully whoever is in power after the General Election will do something about it. How we treat our old people says a lot about any society.

Some people spend a lot of money heating their homes in the winter. Electricity and gas prices are very high and show no signs of coming down any time soon. Savvy people are changing over to oil as a home fuel though. Cheapest heating oil make sure the nations oil tanks stay full. Heating oil suppliers are found countrywide and can, as an example, supply heating oil Keswick.
