The UK government have received a formal recommendation by The Royal Society, a national science debate organization, suggesting that more resources are needed to develop pioneering sustainable farming techniques. Further to this they state that the UK needs to consider how to support farmers and rural populations through their farming methods, when most advances in agriculture seem to be promoting mechanical and automated farming systems that are putting people out of work. It was once upon a time that students across the country would not know how to cook anything when they started University life but that is now all changing as the student union in Bath, UK are starting to hand out ‘Advanced Lesson in Cooking’ cook books to their students who are due to start University. The cookbook is trying to encourage younger kids to initiate cooking things like oven roasted vegetables and tuna pasta bake instead of opting for fast solid food like pizza pie, burgers and Chinese which is very un-healthy for the body. Food books get handed out at the beginning of every academic year at both Bath Universities in the UK and second and third years come back each year to pick up another one as well as encourage new students to pick one up.
